About Us

Our organization has been built around a rich history that started in 1965. H.O. “Bob” Wood, plant manager at Ethicon, became interested in providing services to the boys in San Angelo. Because of his dedicated work, the San Angelo Boys Club began in a rented building on South Chadbourne.  It was certified for full membership with Boys Clubs of America and fully incorporated in the fall of 1965. In 1966, the Club became a member of the United Fund, now known as the United Way of the Concho Valley.

In 1990, the name officially changed to the Boys & Girls Club.

In the fall of 1996, a coalition of Hispanic leaders and the organization were successful in obtaining a $900,000 Community Development Block Grant, in addition to securing $200,000 in bonds from SAISD, the 15,000 square foot South Side Club was built.

Since 1965, the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo has actively sought to enrich the lives of girls and boys whom other youth agencies have had difficulty in reaching. We are dedicated to ensuring that our community's disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures. Great Futures Start Here at The Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo for thousands of children between the ages of 6 and 18.

We have two units conveniently located on the northern and southern ends of town to better serve the children and their families in Tom Green County and the surrounding counties. The Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo is the only youth serving organization with programs, staff, and facilities 100% dedicated to youth between the ages of 6-18. Our Clubs are designed to give girls and boys, responsible adult guidance, thereby filling needs frequently not met elsewhere. By offering continuous, concerned leadership, the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo helps youngsters grow into mature, constructive adults, better able to benefit from and meet the responsibilities of life in our county. The children we serve come from all backgrounds and walks of life. Most of the children we serve come from single parent families. Some of our children come from neglect, abuse, or abandonment and manage to find a mainstay here at the Boys & Girls Club.

Every day, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Angelo strives to improve each child's life by implementing self-esteem, courage, and positive values through all the educational programs. Our youth come to the Boys & Girls Club to receive tutoring, computer training, sports, education, homework help, and mentoring that cover all five core program areas. Our youth gain confidence by developing a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence, and competence.

Since 1965, more than 10,000 boys and girls each year, are taking advantage of the programs, activities, and services provided by the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo. They benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who help them take control of their lives, envision productive futures, and achieve their goals. In a world that has never seemed more threatening and devoid of promise for a disproportionate number of America's children, the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo provides a tangible measure of hope. The Club offers young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting, constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits. A youth development strategy underlies all Boys & Girls Club programs and fosters a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, and influence that builds self-confidence and self-esteem.

2020 brings a new decade and a new direction for the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo. The organization is aiming to be the premier go to place for after school in San Angelo. With the longevity and rich history of the Club the opportunities are there, and we look forward to the future and what is in store for the young people in San Angelo and the Concho Valley!
